Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has finalized a 16-man squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. 5 people have been dropped from the primary team of 23 people. However, the board is still awaiting the final approval of the country's sports minister. Such information has come to light quoting the Sri Lankan newspaper Daily News.
Pathum Nishanka is going to be dropped from Bangladesh tour due to injury. The opener has yet to recover from a back injury sustained in the Mohali Test against India. Oshada Fernando will replace Nishanka with opener Dimuth Karunaratne as the opener.
Apart from Nishanka, pacers Mohammad Siraj, Shiran Fernando, off-spinner Laksitha Manasinghe and Jeffrey Vanders have been dropped from the 23-man squad.
Meanwhile, the 16 selected cricketers will have to take a fitness test in front of the trainer between April 25 and 26. If someone fails the fitness test, the cricketer is likely to be dropped. In that case, the fate of any of the dropped cricketers may be revealed.
According to the Daily News, Chaminda Vass, who has been appointed as Sri Lanka's bowling coach, will not be able to join the team due to personal reasons. As a result, Darshana Gamage will come with the team as a fast bowling coach in Bangladesh tour.

Sri Lanka will arrive in Bangladesh on May 7. The two teams will meet in the first Test on May 15 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. The second and final Test will be played on May 23 at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.
